First, you have to understand the type of ceiling you have. Homes will often have Cathedral ceilings or flat ceilings. First when room decorating you will want to pick out a color scheme. If you wish to use a darker color for your room decorating keep in mind that the darker colors will make the room appear smaller.

If you choose a darker color, you will want to keep it to a minimum. One of the best room decorating designs is taking a darker color about three feet up the wall. You will be creating a border with wallpaper. The darker shade should ring the bottom from the trim to meet the wallpaper. You may choose a busy wallpaper or something quite simple that has both wall colors. The rest of the wall should be a lighter shade. They can be in the same color family or at least two colors that will match well.

Once you have your color scheme you can pick out the furniture for your room decorating. The furniture can be anything that pleases you. Of course, you do want to have the colors in some way appeal to the paint you have used. If you are going to have a wood bed frame or antique frame most any color will match with those items. The true test to room decorating is the color of fabrics whether it is the bedspread and sheets or the couch. You want to make sure the room is not too busy with patterns. When room decorating it is often the simplest combinations that work well together rather than the busy patterns you may find in other places.
